  • Teachers Expectations
Are parents required to teach? Each class will be taught by a parent-teacher. "This is you." Teachers should anticipate spending 1-2 hours of preparation time per class, each week. Teachers will be prepared for class prior to the ASCEND school day. Teacher training will be offered during the summer, prior to classes starting. Teachers will be responsible for finding a substitute teacher when absent. How many classes am I required to teach? All parent-teachers are required to teach 2 classes and may be asked to assist in others. We take teaching requests based on seniority and choose the best fit for each class. See FAQ re: What may I do on my off hours, below. What may I do on my off hours, when not teaching? At ASCEND, we value connection, and adore time with our ASCEND family and Co-op members. Part of our mission is to serve each other, our community, and build authentic friendships. Therefore, parents are to remain at school during off hours, with exceptions of course. You may offer to serve and help in other classes. You may check in on the classes your children are in. You may build relationships and fellowship with the other parents who have off hours. May a family member teach in my stead? We value greatly building authentic friendships with our families each week, and would ask that the weekly teachers are the parents of the students enrolled at ASCEND. There may be exceptions. When a family member, like Grandma or Grandpa, come in to teach a special class that they have wisdom in and gifts to share. Substitutes If you require a sub, please prepare that in advance with another ASCEND Co-op teacher. Keep in mind, we always prioritise the safety of our children. All teachers and substitutes require a Colorado background check. Therefore, substitutes are rarely outside of the normal ASCEND Co-op teachers, and will need a Colorado background check done prior to teaching day. How do you go about choosing a class to teach, or how are teachers selected? After the admissions process is complete, we collect information about your gifts and interest in teaching certain classes. We then build a schedule based on all our responses. This will be done during the summer prior to the upcoming school year. Are their certain classes available to teach and some already spoken for? Next years teachers’ slots are not selected until we build the schedule during the summer, which are based on the responses we get back from our Co-op parent-teachers.

  • Mission Statement and ASCEND acronym unpacked...
ASCEND: Academically, Serving, Christ, in Excellence, and Nurturing, Disciples MISSION: We are a Christ Centered Cooperative for Homeschoolers, preparing our children spiritually and academically, while building authentic friendships and serving others for the glory of God. As a Christ Centered Homeschool Cooperative, our families aim to serve Jesus, serve each other and our community, build authentic friendships, while striving for academic excellence in homeschooling. We believe in these attributes: Integrity, Love, Grace, Serving, Academics, Sacrificial Love, Equality and Excellence, all in the name of our Lord. _____________________________________________________________________ Christ-Centered Education All teaching and training revolves around Jesus Christ. “...and he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.” (Colossians 1:18) “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Academically Prepared in excellence God desires us to pursue excellence, knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Acquires knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. “Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” (Prov.1:5-7) God desires us to pursue excellence. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Col. 3:23) “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) “For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10) “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” (2 Chronicles 15:7) Dedicated to Developing Discerning Leaders & Nurturing Disciples Unswerving devotion to develop servant leaders who are able to compare and contrast worldviews based on a biblical worldview. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. and be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2) “Who is wise? He will realize these things. Who is discerning? He will understand them. The ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.” (Hosea 14:9) “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:1-6) To Glorify God We purpose to honor and exalt God in everything. “Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 115:1) “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5-6) “So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” (1 Corinthians 3:7) “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11) A purposed, distinctive, positive influence for Jesus Christ in any life situation. “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.” (Romans 1:8) To Build Strong Friendships Friendship is a gift from God “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” (Hebrews 6:10) “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” (Psalm 133:1) “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” (Romans 12:10-11) “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4) “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2) To Serve others God’s purpose and expectation for us to serve others “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” 2 Corinthians 9:7-9
